Niger: coach BANA out
CAF decided some days ago to ban for three games Niger's coach, the 49-year-old Togolese TCHANILE BANA. He was found guilty of bringing into disrepute the match opposing Niger to Lesotho in Maseru in March for the African Cup of Nations qualifier.
Infuriated by the referee's decisions during the 3-1 defeat against Lesotho, BANA ordered his players to leave the pitch. CAF also fined him US$5,000. Because of these sanctions the Niger Football Federation announced BANA's sacking on 3 May. His contract which started in April 2006 was due to expire in September 2007. Niger have now less than a month to recruit a new coach before the next qualifying match against Lesotho in Niamey next June.
Before becoming Niger's coach TCHANILE BANA had worked in the country between 1966 and 1999 for two national league clubs: Sahel FC which won the league title twice, and JS Tenere which won three national cups. His career as a player took place in his native Togo where he served two clubs: Semassi Sokode from 1978 to 1984 before playing two years for Foadan de Dapong.
In 2002 he lead Togo national team to the 2002 African Cup of Nations finals. He was in charge of 21 games for Togo, wining nine and losing just five.
