| South Africa: several friendlies for the Bafana Bafana |
South Africa Football Association (SAFA) confirmed on Thursday 5 July that the national football team will play a friendly with the World Champions in Italy on 17 October. On 22 August they will travel to Scotland for another friendly against the Scottish national team.
All these matches are part of a programme of friendlies aimed to make the Bafana Bafana play nations from around the world before they host the World Cup in 2010. SAFA chief executive Raymond HACK expressed his satisfaction to have "secured matches with countries of this calibre, including the world champions." He declared that other high-profile friendlies for South Africa include a clash against the US on 17 November, and planned matches against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.
