| Ghana: coach OSAM DUODO resigns |
Who will be coaching the Black Starlets of Ghana for their first Under-17 World Cup opening campaign against Trinidad and Tobago on 20 August in Soth Korea?
Coach Fred OSAM DUODO decided to resign yesterday for "personal reasons". But the fact is that he had come under fire for the team's dismal showing at last month's Eight Nations U-17 tournament. His resignation has not been officially accepted yet. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) said they will name DUODO's successor in the 48 hours after accepting his resignation, and they have "to make sure that we put the right coach in place", said GFA spokeman Randy ABBEY. "We need to ensure DUODO's last minute departure will not have a negative impact on the team. The new coach will have to be up to the task of bringing glory to the country and Africa at the World Cup next month.", ABBEY added.
The Black Starlets qualified for the next World Cup after finishing at the third place at the African U-17 Championship in Togo in March, with DUODO as coach. The same DUODO led Gambia to the U-17 World Cup in Peru in 2005 where they defeated Brazil 3-1, and to victory at the African U-17 Championship in the same year.
Ghana are two-time World Champions, and apart from Trinidad and Tobago their other Group F opponents will be Germany and Colombia.
